My fireworks made it to the Front page of Chron.com again.
Every 4th of July, I find myself remembering my first photography job. A friend at the Chronicle was tasked with shooting a video for a behind the scenes of a fireworks display piece for the then upcoming Houston 4th of July show. I was there as the still photographer. The final production piece changed a lot and most of my shots were left on the floor, but at least I still show in the credits (you have to right mouse click on the window to see it).
That's something to learn about media work--it changes a lot and the final outcome may or may not be what you hope for. Especially when you're only a bit player. But you get the experience and still feel pride that you had a part to play.
It's always a blast to see work, I had a part in, show up on the front page of the website (http://www.chron.com) Theres a good article called "End the night with a bang" which goes into some of the story of a fire-work show producer. The videos, though are my favorite (yes, I'm biased), are under resources, in the article.
You can also go directly to the behind the scenes video piece Tim Sanders produced here.
I have a few of my favorites shots of the show in my gallery here: Fireworks, Sky, Land and Sea, and a flickr set July 4th 2006.
