"Photo-motion" making a video with a still frame camera

Friday, November 21, 2008 is a day that I will remember for a long time. Before I get into this, I should probably start with Wednesday November 19, 2008. That's the day I fatefully visited my peeps at the Camera Coop [801 Durham Dr, Houston, TX 77007, (713) 522-7837 (Map and directions) ].

There I found an abandoned Nikon d300 that someone had callously sold back. Needless to say I snatched it up, ignoring the screaming and shouting of my empty wallet. (yes I need to work on impulse control)

The camera is just plain AWESOME! It is because of this beautiful work of artful technology that the next was even conceivable.Yes, you heard me right. While I love my Nikon d80, it could not have performed, and in fact I would have never even tried this little experiment had I only the d80.

So what is this all about you are now impatiently asking? Well it's not video and it's not still frame photography. It is the marriage of both. Think stop motion, but with live action instead of single step motion capture.

It's all possible with the d80, but 2.5 frames/sec is NOT 5 frames/sec. the d300, with it's 5 frames/sec makes all the difference.

The fun force has put the video up on youtube so without further ado, please enjoy. (I'll wax on about how I did it in a later post.)
